" ... We know that Nefertiti was originally buried with her husband Akhenaten at Amarna and later was moved to Thebes. This winter, the Supreme Council of Antiquities will begin new excavations in the Valley of the Kings. We will start our excavation near the tomb of Merenptah, son and successor of Ramses II. We believe that the tomb of Ramesses VIII may be located here. We will also use radar in the area around the tomb of Tutankhamun to see if Egyptologist Nicholas Reeves is correct or not in his previous identification of a radar anomaly here as `KV64`.
The Valley of the Kings still has mysteries to reveal, and for the past century, it has always been foreigners who have excavated in search of them. This is the first time that an Egyptian team will be working in the burial ground of our pharaohs. We hope we can uncover KV64 or another tomb near the tombs of Merenptah or Tutankhamun ..."
